Mrs. K got a new fully tricked out XC40 Volvo about 14 months ago. It drives nice and comfortable on long rides.
However and this is a big however the automation isn’t quite there.
The infotainment center has had to be rebooted 5 or 6 times since we picked up the car.
The car last summer while on 95 took an evasive turn for no apparent reason.
Mrs K had an incident with the car when it wouldn’t start. It’s not repeated itself.
The driver assist feature is pretty cool. When engaged it will drive the car. Keeps you in the lane. The problem is that a few times it’s tried to drive off the road. Generally it’s occurring when the car is on a slow turn to the left with an intersection on the right. It tries to abruptly turn to the right.
The camera system stopped working with a temporarily unavailable message. Did some research and there is a new recall that addresses this issue.
The car on two occasions had braked abruptly to keep from hitting a nonexistent object. Today I actually thought I backed into something leaving the driveway. I actually pulled forward, got out and looked. Nothing was there. The red indicator was right in the middle of the picture. There were cars parked on the other side of the street probably 20 to 25 feet away. Nothing explains the behavior.
Today after the abrupt stop the turn directional audible clicking sound wasn’t sounding. Reboot number 7 of the infotainment system.
While waiting in the parking lot while Mrs. K. shopped I turned on YouTube in the car. Got a message saying I was offline. I attempted to log off and log back in. After I logged out I couldn’t log back in. To further verify I tried to use google maps. Same symptoms. I’m offline and can’t use the mapping function.
I looked for an option to reboot the internet connection. Couldn’t locate one.
I pushed the Volvo non emergency call button which connected. Asked the help desk person if they were experiencing connectivity issue because I can’t use google maps or YouTube while parked.
The tech indicated I needed to reboot the infotainment system (number 8). She dropped off but after the reboot completed she returned and said I now needed to reboot the telemetric system (internet connection). That reboot is performed by pressing and holding front defrost button. That did restore the internet connection.
Everything is working now.
One would think that rebooting the infotainment center would also trigger a reboot of the telemetric system.
Of late I’ve also had some issues with the radio and connecting my phone via Bluetooth to play podcasts. Sometime it connects and sometime it doesn’t. It’s extremely inconsistent. It could be the phone as my phones been behaving oddly lately.
