Prep work for upcoming cataract surgery.
This involved a perfunctory physical and a number of different tests to measure the eyes for the new lens going in. I opted to keep my glasses for distance and take my glasses off for reading up close. Some people do away with glasses. I’ve had glasses since I was 12 or 13.
French classes.
Every Tuesday we trek out to Charlottesville for 90 minutes of pain. The class is immersive so it’s more French than English. I can generally figure out most of what I’m reading, but listening at the rate she speaks at is virtually impossible for me to follow. Then the work involved to translate/decode the 3 textbooks takes a lot of time. I’ve been using DuoLingo to help, but it’s more busywork. I need to find a different book. More traditional English and French.
Pre-op physical for an ablation.
Another trip down to Chippenham where they try to draw blood usually resulting in a few attempts. I think out of the last 6 blood draws or IV starts only one time did they hit the vein on the first attempt. Had to wait around a long time for a chest xray.
Some PT sessions trying to get my back right.
I went about 10 times over 7 weeks and I don’t know if they helped that much. I did the same exercises at home. What or where the breakthrough seemed to start was when I pushed through the pain. It seems to get minutely better everyday. So I opted to stop going.
I’m yet to get the MRI scheduled. I think the MRI is a precursor to a cortisone shot and or possibly digging deep into the problem to see what exactly is needed. The MRI comes later in the month. The follow up hadn’t been scheduled.
Planted grass seed and daily watering.
Broke up compacted soil, raked topsoil over abou an eighth of an acre, spread fertilizer, spread grass seed, raked all the loose soil and seed in, spread hay and and have been watering for a few weeks now. The grass has taken. I may overseed with some rye after the leaves are completely down.
The ablation.
The ablation was done and the only issue was the nurse rooting about trying to start the IV for fluids and anesthesia. Second times a charm. Spoke with the cardiologist for a bit. Then they wheeled me in around 11:15 and some older male nurse needed a smack. A little too rough. Throughing me around and pressing on the pacemaker to stick some pickups on my chest and back. They put me out and the TEE followed by the ablation was performed. I woke around 3:00 and was home by 5:30. I don’t have any details as to whether the irregular beats were from old sites, new sites or both. Also figured out that they shaved me from the waist down while I was out. It probably was that older male nurse.
While at home from about 8:00 pm to after midnight my rate was elevated running in the low 90s. It cleared on its own. The rate has been fine since.
I walked a bit the last two days without any issues. I may drag the tennis ball machine to the courts tomorrow.
Upcoming cataract surgery.
This Thursday I get a new lens. Seems the surgery is rather rudimentary, but has a long list of potential complications. Supposedly, they do the surgery with you being awake if you like. My preference would you be as unaware as they allow. Unless he has to ask me questions having “stuff” rooting around my eye I find unappealing.
