While riding up to the supermarket I came upon an odd situation. I needed to take a left to get to the supermarket. I turned on my directional and moved over to the turn lane. About 150 feet away a white pickup truck was coming towards me. There were no vehicles behind him. He gets about 50 feet from the intersection, turns on his right directional and stops about 25 feet from the intersection. I thought this odd behavior. With the sun, glare and distance I think he was waving me on. From my perspective I felt his “kindness” was a bit foolish so I waved him on while flashing my high beams. He waved me on again. This time I did nothing. I can be stobbornly obstinate. Finally, he moved on and made the turn. Thank God I was done so I thought.

I followed him into the supermarket parking lot I signaled to turn and he signaled to turn one row beyond me. I pulled into park and he pulls in right next to me. I’m thinking what does this nut job want. I lock the car after getting out and he gets out and says to me “I was just letting you go”, I simply said “although what you did was probably well intentioned it really made no sense. If you just signaled and turned it would have saved me about 30 seconds.”. He then said “fuck you”. I’m now thinking this state has a lot of gun toting red necks, and here’s a guy about my age, clearly not thinking clearly and probably should be avoided. I said “have a great day” and walked into the supermarket. He was about 10 feet behind me and as I walked to the store I listened for any sounds of him “rushing” me. I also looked at the store front watching his reflection. Went into the store and picked up the half a dozen or so things I needed. Didn’t see him in the store. Paid for my purchases and returned to the car. His truck was still there. I was going to spit on the window, but then I’d be as nuts as him.

I know I’ve often whined about the Mainers who don’t give you a break, but this situation didn’t require any kindness. Just go.

In closing if he had turned his turn signal on at 100 feet from the intersection I would have gone without being prompted. He was just too close.
